Weight Loss and Diets
There’s a direct connection between weight loss and diets, although we can lose weight by other methods as well, and not all diets are targeting losing wieght (one can be on a diet because of health issues, you know). Why do we tend to make this association of words? Maybe that’s because of the way humans are built: we like to eat, we enjoy inviting our friends to dinner, we have food cravings, and many times we feel such an intense pleasure in the eating process itself, that we tend to overeat. Why then are we amazed when we realize that our clothes don’t fit anymore, that our whole wardrobe is shrinking mercilessly, or that maintaining an active pace of life becomes harder every day?
The Weight Loss Pill Miracle
We are lazy creatures and maybe this is the explanation for our endless search for the quickest way to lose weight, or for rapid weight loss programs which don’t require any effort from our side. Why do you think weight loss pills are so successful? Humans would swallow pills for everything. Weight issues? Take a pill and control your weight. Troubles in marriage? One small pill a day and chase your troubles away! I bet many of us wish things would be that easy.
Lose 10 Pounds. What’s Your Price?
I use to have a say: every person has her own price for doing certain things. It is all about the motivation. If you asked me to climb the stairs to my 9th floor apartment ten times a day, I’d say “no chance”. But if you told me that if I do that for 10 days in a row I’d win one million dollars, don’t you think I’d do it? I surely would. I would even for $100,000. Why? Because the amount of effort required is smaller than the value of my gain. The same applies with weight loss. If I told you to follow this and that diet or workout program, you’d be motivated only if the prize you’d get would mean something to you. If to lose 10 pounds in 10 days means no big deal for you, then you won’t follow a diet which would make you that promise. However, if a weight loss diet would claim you can lose 20 pounds in two weeks, maybe this would change everything. Maybe 20 pounds is what you need to lose in order to attain your ideal weight. Then the price of respecting that diet would look reasonable, compared with the results.
I Respect Your Body Weight, But Sometimes It Is Too Much
So, it’s all about perspective. This explains the great variety of weight loss plans which are so popular, and this also explains why each fad diet, each weight loss procedure, each nutrition plan has its own fans and haters. Some people managed to burn fat where some others failed miserably. The common denominator is that self confidence, respect and interaction with our peers are amongst our biggest values, which we cherish as much as to forget about health and get ourselves into starvation, into severe weight loss diets, or even into supreme procedures such as the gastric bypass.
Perhaps more than 70% of the population pays tribute to weight loss and diets at leas once in a lifetime.
